HERITAGE

Anthony Fokker (1890 - 1939)

The remarkable Dutch aviation pioneer forms the main pillar of our company Fokker Techniek. In 2019, Fokker celebrated its centennial milestone. Anthony Fokker started the Nederlandsche Vliegtuigenfabriek Fokker (Netherlands Aircraft Factory Fokker) over more than 100 years ago. Today, we are still continuing his legacy by providing, among others, exclusive aircraft interiors. We couldn’t do this without all the experience we have gathered over the years. It’s a heritage that we are proud to continue.

De Spin (The Spider)

1910

Anthony Fokker called the small propeller aeroplane he designed and constructed in 1910 De Spin (The Spider). On 1 September 1911 he flew for the first time above Haarlem, after he had taken off from a meadow and flew around the tower of the “Grote” or St Bavo Church. He landed in the Kleverpark. He tested his models himself.

First World War

1918

The Fokker D.VII is judged the best aeroplane in the entire First World War. It was powered by a 185 hp six-cylinder engine from BMW and was a very manoeuvrable plane. At the end of the war, one of the requirements of the Allied Forces was that all D.VIIs had to be scrapped or returned. Approximately 140 aeroplanes had been shipped to the United States.

The world’s largest aeroplane manufacturer

1927

At the end of the 1920s Fokker was the world’s largest aeroplane manufacturer with, among others, three factories in the United States. It was a time of fast growth for civil aviation and the development of larger passenger aeroplanes such as the Fokker F.32, which could transport 32 passengers.

"Pelikaan" and "Snip"

1933 & 1934

Legendary are the record flight of the “Pelikaan” to Batavia in 1933 and the first transatlantic flight of the “Snip” to Curacao in 1934. The date 30 December 1933 was a historic one, when the four-man crew who had completed a return flight with the three engine Fokker “Pelikaan” Amsterdam-Batavia in record time was honoured.

Fokker F27 "Friendship"

1958

In 1958 a new innovative aircraft type was introduced, the Fokker F27 “Friendship”. With new lightweight techniques applied, Rolls-Royce Dart turboprop engines and cabin pressure, it was a very comfortable and reliable aircraft. With 786 aircraft built, this was considered the most successful West-European Turboprop aircraft at the time.

Fokker F28 "Fellowship"

1962

Designed to operate for the smaller and regional airports, the first Fokker aircraft with Jet Engines was presented in 1962: the Fokker F28 "Fellowship". A successful regional aircraft, providing seating for 65 to 85 passengers, it was used for short and medium- range flights. A total of 241 Fokker F28 aircraft were built. In 1972, the Dutch government purchased an F28 (Aircraft Registration PH-PBX) with a VIP configuration, providing space for 18 passengers. This aircraft was used until 1996, when a new modern Fokker 70 aircraft was purchased.

Fokker 50

1980s

The Fokker F27 Mk. 050 or “Fokker 50” was a further development of the successful Fokker F27 Friendship. Using new Pratt and Whitney TurboProp engines, new flight characteristics and a new digital avionics suite, it was an outstanding aircraft. It provided a passenger capacity up to 50 passengers. Fokker also developed a military variant of the Fokker 50, the “Fokker 60”. This version had improved TurboProp Engines, providing more horsepower, and had a large cargo door to transport a.o. F16 engines.

Fokker 100

1980s

Using the basis of the Fokker F28 Fellowship, the Fokker 100 was developed in 1985 to compete with the other aircraft manufacturers. This new aircraft type offered a seating capacity of up to 109 passengers and featured new Rolls-Royce Tay engines. With new improved flight characteristics and a modern digital avionics suite, it was the top of its class. A total of 283 Fokker 100 aircraft were built.

Fokker 70

1990s

With the success of the Fokker 100, there was an increased demand for regional Jets that could carry 60-80 passengers in the '90s. Taking the Fokker 100 as basis, the company removed two sections at the front and aft fuselage, upgraded the avionics, systems and engines and hence, the Fokker 70 was born in 1993. Until the bankruptcy of Fokker in 1996, 47 Fokker 70 aircraft were built with many orders still on the books. Several of these Fokker 70 aircraft were converted into VIPs.

PH-KBX

1996

Fokker has a strong and long lasting relationship with the royal family and the Dutch government. In 1996, a Fokker 70 became the Dutch government’s aeroplane for the transport of the royal family and government officials, such as the prime minister and other ministers. The aeroplane registration was PH-KBX.
