With the success of the Fokker 100, there was an increased demand for regional Jets that could carry 60-80 passengers in the ’90s. Taking the Fokker 100 as basis, the company removed two sections at the front and aft fuselage, upgraded the avionics, systems and engines and hence, the Fokker 70 was born in 1993. Until the bankruptcy of Fokker in 1996, 47 Fokker 70 aircraft were built with many orders still on the books. Several of these Fokker 70 aircraft were converted into VIPs.
